25 Random Things About Joanie
OK, so you all know the drill by now — 25 things! So many of my friends have already written their amusing things and tagged me mindlessly
Without further adieu, and in no particular order, here is my verbosity at its finest:
- I can’t write! That’s right. I have always had great ideas of what to write but I have very low confidence with my writing skills. The reason for that is…
- I skipped English 101 when I studied here in US. I begged my college dean of admissions to accept my English credits from the Philippines because I had no money to pay for my tuition fee. I wanted to graduate so bad so I could start working. I cried in front of him and he allowed me in one condition -if I passed English Literature. Somehow I did!
- I can’t drive. Yes you read it right. But you can’t blame me; I’ve lived in the city my whole life (except for when I lived in a rural community in the Philippines)! And besides, parking in the city is a bitch!
- I have terrible sense of direction. I guess it’s a good thing I can’t drive
- I love to drink wine, but don’t ask me to recommend anything…I have no idea what to tell you
- My mom convinced me to study nursing so I did. But quit in half a day of internship. I couldn’t stand the smell from the nursing home.
- I study Hotel and Restaurant Management in the Philippines (PWU) for 1 semester but when I came in the US I couldn’t find a school close to home that offered that degree. Frustrated, I looked at the school list of courses and saw A for accounting.
- I love coffee and hazelnut…coffee is my lifeline and hazelnut is my life support (flavor)
- I was teased in high school for being really fat and quiet. I was fat but don’t think I was REALLY that fat
and quiet…little they did know - I like my husband’s cooking but I hate it when he cooks. He makes a huge mess in the kitchen and even all the way to the dining room. He uses every utensil around. And since he cooks, I have to clean. I hate cleaning!
- I have 2 brothers and one of them is a US Soldier. I’m very proud of him
- I love Judge Judy. I like it when she says “You are not a good witness. Because a good witness answers a Judge’s question directly, and my question to you was a very simple one. A SIX YEAR OLD COULD ANSWER IT!!!”
- I do not get football. I’ve tried to figure it out and my husband and his friend have both tried to teach me, but I guess I’m just not into it
- One of my close friends is Haitian and she is a sweet, smart & strong woman! I love her even though we don’t see each other often….but hey that’s why we have Facebook right?
- I re-connected with my childhood crush, thanks to the wonderful world wide web. Unfortunately, he turned out to be a jerk and pretty creepy. Glad he was just a crush
- When I was young, I had a huge crush on Joey McIntyre of NKOTB, Hugh Grant, Bret Michael of Poison and John Cusack (because JC reminds me ex bf)
- One of my bridesmaids was a guy. I’ve known him for 12 plus years. He is a vegan (a.k.a. pain in the ass) and I call him my brother from another mother because his b-day is the same as my older bro and his mom and my mom has the same name and b-day too.
- I love shoes, handbags, the spa and the beach, but I can only afford one at the time
- I love to read books but if I don’t like the first 10 pages, I drop it like a hot potato.
- I seldom go to church/attend mass because I’m tired of some priests bashing other religions during homily, especially since
- My husband is different religion from me. But it never gotten in the way of our relationship. And beside, he is not that religious himself…god knows if he can say there prayer
- I’m not a big fan of one of my friend’s husband because he likes to talk big like he know this person and that person…I’m thinking “dude, if you really know the owner here, why the heck are we getting up to get our drink? Can’t that person you know hook you up for a 5 star service?” I guess talking big compensate for something he is….short of.
- I hate it when someone only calls me because they need to vent. But as soon as everything is lovey-dovey, they have no time for you.
- Like my friend Mimi says - I really, really hate talking on the phone. If I don’t call you — please don’t take it personal. It’s definitely the phone, not you! Text or IM me instead
- Sometimes I want to kill my dog because my dog doesn’t go to the bathroom when I’m around (or when walking him). He will hold it for 2 days or until my husband walk him. I know that he is just a dog, and he had a really hard life for his first five years. I need to have more patience, but it can get frustrating. It’s something I need to work on.

Hi Joanie! i was smiling and enjoying myself reading all the way from 1 to 24 but really had to stifle a laugh when i reached 25 when i read the words- “sometimes i want to kill my dog” hahahahaha…it made me realize that these line of yours up there on the right- “….Some may be funny, some may be sad and some may be ridiculously stupid…but they are all REAL and HONEST nonetheless!”..really defines your blog page hehehehe……and i like it pretty much as it is…honest and real!

Naku Eng, talagang nagaling kang magpaganda ng araw (or gabi) Thank you ha…. Mas mabuti na maging honest ako kasya sa mag make-up ako ng story (which I’m capable of doing) but why waste my time….unless I’m writing a book…fiction book (hmmm that’s not a bad idea)
joanie, girl!!! eto pa lang ang comment ko,’…si zen yung unang commentator mo..ha!ha!ha!(at least now i knew once in a blue moon naaalala mo ako.)….like zen said,you’re very upfront and i do have high respect for such rare quality in a person.
i don’t know if i had to write it here or post it on my blog…since i,m here might as well!!
1. can’t swim,so pls dont anyone dare push me or throw me in a pool OR there will be a tirade of phrases which will burn your ears!
2.i have this thing against dust,i start to itch if i see thick dust around the house.
3. sorry guys not an animal lover,they’re lovely to look at but i don’t want to own one.
4.i love brown in all shades.
5.i seldom call friends, not because i don’t need them rather i find it difficult to initiate a conversation.
6.i love my quiet moments at home,once i am in nothing close to emergency can get me out.
7.i cant last a day without a dose of caffeine.
8.i allow people to take advantage of me once and that’s it.
9.i hate going home after a long day at work in a messy house.thank goodness, the hubby and the little one are finally getting the message.
10.i dont go out much,party less.yeah, i know pathetic.
11.to me, guys with long locks gives an impression of being good in bed…ha!ha!ha!the hubby haven’t got hair but hey he is still good in bed!
12.one of my sexual fantasy is to make love in a deserted beach…in broad daylight.
13.i dont drive,this day and age its a necessity but i dont see the need as everything i need is within walking distance and that includes medical care.
14.i used to iron my undies and socks, stopped after doing it for years as i realized how silly it looks.
15.i only own two fragrances.i wear colors by benetton(i never outgrow it) at work and still by jlo on any other occasion.
16.i told friends and family that good thing GOD didn’t bestowed me with a body to die for as HE knew i would flaunt it to no end.i would even walk around in a skimpy bikini on a hot day!!
17.i’m also thankful that GOD didn’t give me a face that could launch a thousand ships as am arrogant already with the one i have now.
18.if i had to go under the knife to enhance my look, it has to be to get rid of my unsightly eyebags.
19.i hate thongs,a friend once give me a set as a present and i gave it away.i cant bear the uncomfortable feeling at my rear crack.
20.the only occasion i remembered putting on lipstick and eyeshadow(hates blush on)were on my college graduation and my civil wedding.
21.i had a darker color underarms but what the heck i still wears spaghetti strap blouses and so on.my argument, if you dont like what you see dont look.
22.i love to gaze at abstract painting mainly because of the vibrancy of colors.but for the life of me i have no idea what i am looking at.
23.not much of a flower lover either.i like to surround myself with lush of greens yet i’m not keen on flowers.
24.i have an IQ of 120, though it doesn’t mean a thing, as one matures,one accumulates knowledge, experience and yes gray hairs!
25.i dont have lots of friends but the ones i have now are for keeps.

Eng, i think you should post this on your blog. Thanks for sharing 25 randoms things about you. After reading it, I find a lot of things in common with you….like:
#4 - love all shade of brown that my wedding is all brown. My bridesman was making fun of me for having him wear brown tux, he said “you let a brown man wear a brown tux!”
#5 - i’m uncomfortable starting a conversation…
#7 - coffee is my life
#12 - my husband and I talked about this in Hawaii…oh I wish we can do it one day
#21 - me too. but thats a good thing of living in the US, people doesn’t care about it. For them its normal. Sa Pinas, ay naku tawanan ka talaga

It’s cool to discover how people, who appear different, do have similarities too:
#3 I don’t drive also.
#4 Have awful sense of direction. Been living here in this house for four years now, but I won’t be able to get home if I were to drive alone from my work place! This is what I get for carpooling.
#5 Can’t recommend a good wine either. Don’t know much about it and don’t care…I just er…drink!
#10 Ooh the cooking! Doods love to cook too and he does it well, but he is such a messy cook! Yikes!
#14 My bestfriend, Esa is in facebook, she was the one who insisted I create an account there.
#18 I am a bag and shoes magnate! I have to adjust my whole closet to accommodate my ever growing number of just these two items!

like what Tes said it is so cool how we can share some similarities yet still manage to be unique and different. I also can’t drive Joanie, was driving before but after an accident, I somehow shut it out of my life, hope temporarily though. And I am like you when reading book. I can not share number 25, since I do not have a dog, and I am not sure if I will have one since I have allergies. But I do understand what you mean. I also drop books if the first ten pages don’t interest me :), no patience to get excited :).

Yeah what’s up with the confusion on the names? hehehe Thanks Joanie for tagging me, haven’t come up with mine - will work on that after I have my coffee and hazelnut creamer - whoaw one similarity. I love my starbucks french roast coffee and I use hazelnut powder creamer - no need for sugar the creamer can sweeten it already ! Jeff is like Matt, the reason why I don’t let him cook in our kitchen - he can cook outside on the grill, he makes all kinds of mess and I get really yappy when I have to do the cleaning part.

hey, joanie! i had fun getting to know more about you through this ‘25 random things’ post:) that is so cool one of your bridesmaids was a guy! i like people like you who are not traditionalists. oh, i totally agree with your #23. i hate this so much, too! there’s this one older pinay from my church who ONLY calls me when she has trouble with her daughter:( the worst thing is, she calls at like 11 pm, and talks my ear off til like midnight or past! i have to really try hard to pretend that i’m interested in what she’s saying, and once, i honestly almost fell asleep listening to her go on and on and on. she NEVER calls me to ask me how i am; it’s like, the only thing she cares about is herself and her own problems!! arghh!!! what’s wrong with some people? the next time she calls me late at night, i have vowed not to answer the phone. thank God for caller ID. oh, your #25 made me laugh, joanie:) i understand how frustrating this must be, and i’ll pray that God gives you the patience to deal with your super cute doggie, Lenny:)
